Was thinking of you all. Incredible weekend. I dutifully reported to the Mt. Washington Auto Rd. Saturday A.M. The rockpile was encrusted with ice; limited operation. Excused myself before noon and made it to Plymouth for my son Sam's football game, and back again to finish my weekend shift.

Greetings all FD's...

The bad news...the Campground messed up the week and we don't have those two
campsites...

The good news...they have provided three "rustic condos" for the same price.
When you come up, there is a message on the board at the condo explaining
where this is. Bring air mattresses/sleeping bags/and plan on 1st class
accomodations.

Thank-you to the cast of characters of this year's 5th annual FODOFT weekend. Great time! Here's my version:

Tim "20 tooth", and Tom "Strobe" had breakfast at the Littleton Diner, broke through a wall of rain to get in a little riding Friday on the upper Darling trails. Poundcake roots were a little slippery eh boys? Leo was out there somewhere riding solo.

Scott, J Mac, Getch, and Curt showed up at dusk with express delivery of Tom's replacement pedals. Camp was all set up, dinner ready, and the fire was roaring. Curt introduced everyone to his friend Mike who dropped in from a nearby slopeside condo. Mike is a nice guy with no previous involvent with FODOFT.

Slept in 'til daylight Saturdy morning, about 45 degrees, dark clouds and northwest winds. Mike came by ready to ride and introduced us to his sweetie who passed on the ride and took off with the dogs for a hike around Willoughby.

Saturday ride from the Inn at Mountain View:
10:30 start, X-Clockwise loop heading out Bemis to Toadies and River Run, in and out of Webs and DryFeet to West Branch, Hogback and Sidewinder, (where we found Sven and Dennis. Be sure to watch the video.) Old Webs and out to the Darling Hill Rd. Crossing DH Rd., Vast for a bit, turned back northerly on Culvert Cut, Knob, Vast, Bill Mcgill to Worth It. Took the Mansion View which climbs the highest on the east side of Darling Hill. The turny descent down Mt. View, lower Worthit, Kitchell and Herbs might be worth the climb back to the Inn. We spotted a car in the village.

Scott, Leo, and Sven headed home by late afternoon. Be sure to check out the Weak and Feeble blog to read about DEA (Sven) and JJ's (Dennis) day. I get tired just thinking about it. Mike's fiancee eventually made it back from Willoughby and most hung around for the meal and a little fireside time.

Sunday ride from the Inn at Mountain View:
Tom, Tim, J Mac and Getch broke camp and were riding by 11. Curt had to drop out due to illness. Started out on a short x-clockwise circuit on the northern Darling Hill trails. Loop to Pouncake, Fenceline, Pasture Point and a 200' climb out via Coronary to Loop.
next: Continued south on Bemis, then back down into the West Brnch. Passumpsic Valley for a little clockwise loop into the fabulous Tap 'n Die, n'ly along River Run and up and out on River Walk (yeh, let's walk) to Loop back to the Inn. Getch and J. Mack raced the pavement down the East Darling Hill Rd (J Mac won) to the car and we had a picnic in the KT parking lot with Strobe and Middle Ring (aka 20 Tooth, Anonamoose, Wood Eye, toolman) before heading home ahead of sprinkles, and, was that snow?

You may ask yourself, golly gosh, what can I do?

Well....no one makes a mistake going north. The professional campers are providing: two complete camp kitchens incl. coleman stoves, gas, pots, pans, kitchen tools, wash tubs, paper plates and cups, some firewood, the dingle stick, charcoal, coleman lanterns, small table, Tim's half-acre tarp, J mac pop-up canopie, campire grill, axe, 5 gal. water jug.

what you can bring: paper towels, more paper dinnerware like the best chinette $$ can buy, more firewood, another water jug, lawn chairs, hymn books and campfire skits

Getch: doz. corns on the grill, doz. sweet potatoes and butter, doz. servings apple crisp

Looks like the Darling Hill trails are all open at this point but the Burke Mountain trails are closed. Hope the weather cooperates this week and we get some relatively dry trails this coming weekend.

Are you ready for the annual Old Dads trip to East Burke October 3-5.
Time to shed all that impedimentia and ride the Northeast Kingdom.
Spud has lined up two premier trail-front sites in the Burke Mountain Camp Ground that should hold all comers.
No doubt there'll be any early contingent looking to get a daylight ride in Friday.
Don't miss the usual Saturday night pot luck enscarfment back at camp.

What's there to say. Great weekend of riding and relaxing. Just sad it took this many years to finally make it to KT. Thanks to Getch and everyone else for organizing a good time and making sure the weather cooperated.

After the rides Friday I soooo missed the riding Saturday and Sunday. Wedding was nice, but could not compare to where I wanted to be.

Getch thanks for procuring the sites. JMac thank Ellen for the Pasta Sauce... Very nice.

Tom... Hope you were able to ride Saturday. Great ride on Friday both loops. Need to plan another trip up there this fall before they close.

Way to go Getch for securing the campsite(s), being thoroughly prepared for the food thang, and for arranging the great weather.

I believe that, if I'm counting correctly, we had ten people sleeping in 7 locations(tents, vans, cars, pop-up) on two campsites...outstanding.

Sooooooooooooo...what weekend works for 2008? Who's got pictures to post??

Friday arrivals include, in order of arrival, Tom and Steve, Getch and John Mac by 3, Tim by 4:30. We'll all get that late afternoon ride in if the weather clears out. John is throwing a pasta feed Friday evening so bring your beer and munchies. Someone grab the garlic bread.

Saturday arrivals include John Sanders, Sven, Charles, and Dennis who reportedly are spending Friday night somewhere between Conway and the Kingdom. Getch will have pancakes ready Saturday morning for everyone and we all should be able to rally at the campsite and get outa there by 10 AM.

On the not heard from lately list, unconfirmed, and maybes are Todd Heysler, Monty who always shows by midnight, and maybe a few Importech guys.

For newbies, be sure to stop in East Burke Village at the Trails office for your trails pass. Grab a map. For the campground, drive up past the ski area to the entrance of the Burke Mt. Auto Rd. From the campground entrance, take the circle counterclockwise after the office cabin. We have 2 sites, 18 and 26 - first sites you come to.

Saturday evening is pot luck dining in camp. So far we have vienna sausages ( Homer Simpson's favorite), salad, burgers, kielbasa, sweet corn, sweet potatoes, and apple crisp, more dessert. There is a fireplace and a grill, couple of campstoves.
